Description
This abstract sculpture plays on a constant dialogue between matter and light. The blond wood structures the whole with geometric rigor. Vertical lines rise to create a precise architectural rhythm.
In the center, the contrast is established. Dark and deep inserts break the clarity of the wood. The gleam of the gold leaf brings a precious and solar dimension.
The metallic gleam seems to float, capturing the gaze with its natural luminosity. The balance of volumes brings immediate visual serenity. The composition is organized around a play of fulls and voids.
This 2026 creation combines the organic sobriety of the natural material with the nobility of gold. Verticality dominates the structure, guiding the eye upwards. The meticulous assembly reveals a work of technical precision. The whole rests on a massive base that anchors the piece in space.
Presentation
Attracted since always by contrasts and oppositions, particularly by the dialogue between shadow and light, Sylvain Meyrieu develops an artistic approach based on the search for balance between darkness and brilliance, matter and light.
His first explorations are directed towards black and white photography and charcoal drawing, two practices that feed his sensitivity to nuances, textures, and plays of contrast.
The artist decides to dedicate himself fully to his artistic research. A trip to Japan, marked by the discovery of lacquer art, constitutes a determining step in his journey. He then chooses lacquer and gold leaf as main mediums, associating the depth of lacquered surfaces with the precious luminosity of metal.
In 2026, Sylvain Meyrieu undertakes two series titled "The Illuminated" and "Fragments". Designed as the elements of a coherent whole, his creations are thought to dialogue with each other, to respond to each other and complete each other, inviting the viewer to a sensitive and progressive reading of his universe.
This same year marks his first public exhibitions. He participates in the exhibition Cours et Jardins des Arts, in Vers-Pont-du-Gard, in July 2026, where he receives the Swixim prize, accompanied by an exhibition planned for November.
He is also selected for Nimagine 2026, in the section .
Through his work, Sylvain Meyrieu explores the relationships between shadow and light, seeking to bring a singular visual harmony to their oppositions, where matter becomes the support of a reflection on perception and light.
