Guandyu Dai is a Chinese artist born in 1955 in Chengdu, who currently lives and works in Beijing.

Belonging by the New Wave movement during the 80s in China, Dai Guangyu is an artist who was almost predestined to a more traditional career, his father instilled in him the meticulous art of calligraphy. Today recognized as an important artist of the Chinese artistic scene, Dai Guangyu practices all sorts of artistic expressions from performance to painting.

In the form of contemporary art, he depicts traditional art through the use of calligraphy and symbols from Chinese creation which have gradually disappeared in our contemporary society. His artistic practice is part of a socially committed approach.

He participated in the famous exhibition "China Avant Garde" at the Palais de Beaux Arts in Pekin in 1989, a censored exhibition which marked a turning point in Chinese contemporary art.

Dai Guangyu's work in part of numerous international collections and among his most recent participations in 2013 we can list the exhibition "Chinese First Love" at the Arsenal of Toronto and Montreal or the "Voice of the Unseen" in the collateral exhibiton of the 55th edition of the Venice Biennale.
