Artwork location: Germany

Natural beauty and artificial beauty are remixed and recontextualized in irritating, absurd arrangements by Claus Stolz. Real and artificial plant parts are brought into relation with selected found objects and everyday objects from the studio. Sometimes within a picture, but sometimes, almost perfidiously, not - so it means reading not only in, but also between the pictures and constantly comparing them with the images in one's head.
Transience meets "eternal life", deceptively real poppy blossoms sit on actually real stems of another plant species. Red, white or pink rose blossoms made of wax on natural or "fake" rose stems: Imitation flowers, actually intended as grave decorations, as tokens of lasting and durable, intimate as well as practical remembrance. Pink silicone molds, made for making floral cake deco. Or chrysanthemum flowers dyed in several colors by special tinctures, offered for sale in a net tube for protection.
The corolla of a sunflower, an amaryllis blossom, turned away from us. Perception and memory are a little fooled. After all, we have never really perceived them that way. We wouldn't let a bouquet of flowers get away with that. The subjects are arranged by the artist unpretentiously and analogously on black cardboard and photographed in Blossfeldtian rigor with extreme detail and depth of field, almost hyperreal. Shot as our eye, not the camera, is accustomed to seeing.
Prepared by Stolz from the background noise of things multiplied by our everyday ambivalence. Thus these photographs subvert the photography-immanent determination to be only surface. Each photograph a small staging, a chamber play, a poetry of things.
