After studying at the St. Petersburg Higher School of Fine Arts, Mark Kaplan worked as a production designer in cinema and theater. In the 1980s, he devoted himself fully to painting. Since then, his works have been exhibited in galleries around the world, including Paris, London, New York, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
