Simon Morda-Cotel

Simon Morda-Cotel aka Wose Here is a young visual artist. Born and raised in France, he is currently living in Shanghai. His work is defined by depth and harmony in different dimensional spaces. With a background in graffiti and having studied art in Mulhouse (France), he is now focus on abstract painting and installation. His pictural approach deals with diffraction of lines, architectural templates and deconstructed lettering.

Recently, he has focus his studio work in a serie of painting called « presque monochrome ». This serie is a work about color but also about light because it’s the light that allows new reading of those “almost monochrome paintings”. Contrast differs on the surface of the painting depending of the luminosity enabling the spectator to discover the detail of the composition.

Even if we can feel the influence of the American painters such as Ellsworth Kelly, Barnett Newman or Ad Reinhard, those paintings move towards a geometric field. This geometric abstraction finds its origin in urbanism, but is also influenced by the Bauhaus and Constructivism.
