Séverine Brigeot

Séverine Brigeot is a self-taught photographer, for whom very early on the freedom and spontaneity of the artist's gesture go hand in hand with a perfect mastery of the technique. At 14, Séverine receives her first camera, a Nikon FM, as a birthday present. She will spend hours working on her prints, in the small radiology room of her father's veterinary clinic, which serves as a dark room. At 17, she decided to leave the family home.

She travels for several months, landing from time to time in Paris. As soon as she can, she leaves. Colombia, Amazonia, Cuba, Mexico, Vietnam, India, the Caribbean ... She surveys the world, camera slung, sharpening her eye, learning to frame the moment. In Paris, a meeting leading to another, her work attracts attention and she finds herself a photographer on film sets where she makes a name for herself.

In 2003 she was the still photographer for the film Dreamers by Bernardo Bertolucci. In the process, she collaborates on a book with B. Bertolucci and Adair, participates in the Bertolucci images festival at Castel dell'Ovo in Naples. She will work with him again in 2012 on Moi et Toi. For twenty years she has worked and continues to work with different names in cinema.

The influence of the seventh art has imposed itself in his paintings. It all started four years ago. Unsatisfied with the constraints of digital technology and image processing and with the need to get out of the box, she begins to compose between photos and painting. She deconstructs and recomposes reality by associating fragments chosen in her photos.

After this conceptual phase, painting offers a new dimension to his images and pushes the limits of the off-screen. From this series of works in mixed photography-painting, a cold melancholy emerges. Some pieces can recall the work of Edward Hopper by their very structured composition and the choice of colors. Human silhouettes, lonely and fragile figures, cross abandoned spaces and seem on the verge of disintegration.
