Bernhard Lang, born in 1970 in Crailsheim, Germany, is a celebrated contemporary photographer best known for his striking aerial photography. Based in Munich since 1993, Lang trained for three years at the Anker photo studio in Munich, specializing in advertising photography. He later worked as a freelance assistant for several international photographers in the fashion and commercial sectors before launching his independent career in 2000.
In 2010, Lang began his most acclaimed personal project, “Aerial Views”, capturing landscapes from the sky using helicopters and small aircraft. His compositions explore the impact of human activity on the environment, transforming industrial, agricultural, and recreational sites into visually compelling geometric patterns. These photographs balance aesthetic beauty with a powerful environmental message, portraying the tension between human development and nature.
His most notable series include aerial views of Adriatic beach resorts, Dutch tulip fields, and fish farms in Greece. Lang’s work has been exhibited internationally, including the large-format outdoor exhibition “Mit Abstand am Schönsten” in Ingolstadt in 2021, where 50 of his aerial pieces were showcased in public spaces.
Lang has received numerous awards, including the Sony World Photography Award in 2015 (Travel category) for his Adriatic series. He has also been recognized by the ND Awards and shortlisted for the Prix Pictet, highlighting the socio-environmental themes present in his work.
His photographs are available on major platforms like Saatchi Art, and he continues to be a key figure in the field of contemporary aerial photography, creating work that is both formally captivating and thought-provoking.
