João Teixeira was born in 1982, in Coimbra, Portugal, where he still lives.
He has an academic background in health and started painting in 2013 as a self-taught artist.
Between the real and the abstract, he is mostly inspired by the human figure, its movements and its interaction with the environment. His works usually begin with a photograph or a projected image that he mentally decomposes so as to give live to its own creation, its interpretation of the body, the gestures and ultimately the skin.
Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Jenny Saville and Gerhard Richter are some of his greatest references.
