Tatyana Podmarkova

Tatyana Podmarkova was born in 1973, in Prokopyevsk, Russia. In 2004 she graduated from the Novokuznetsk School of Arts, Workshopof  Bessonov Igor Borisovich. Lives and works in St. Petersburg (Studio “Unconquered").

Since 2007, the artist works with the image of the human body in the classical aesthetics, creating timeless images. For the artist, an appeal to classical themes is an effective way to order the chaos of fragmentation of the modern world. Artistic practice is considered by the author as a stable form of escapism. Despite the apparent detachment of the scenes, each project of Tatyana soaks in the echoes of endless internal drama. Her images are not marked with a touch of time — clothes, accessories or household items. Naked nature unchanged amid centuries.

Note from the artist:

Engaging in art is not something I do for money. Not because it is forbidden, bad or unworthy. It just contradicts my nature and won't give me anything except a feeling of frustration and self-disgust. I can hardly imagine I could conform to someone else's taste or try to please somebody, which I believe is impossible and pointless, in the first place. Whatever I do, I do for myself and my own pleasure, and I enjoy doing it wholeheartedly. That's probably what makes my art both successful with public and formally recognized. It looks as if painting absorbs my satisfaction and passes it on. This is the first thing a viewer perceives, even before becoming aware of the subject and the idea.
