Lisa Multa's painting shows a bird's-eye view of the tali tali (sand hills) at Kungkayunti (Brown's Bore) in the Central Australian Desert. This is the ancestral land of Joe Tjakamarra Multa, the father of the artist and Douglas Multa, Agnes Multa, Alison Multa, Rephina Multa, Benita Multa, and Patricia Multa, and the grandfather of their children. The tali tali are just a short walk from where the family lived and where the artist grew up.
Lisa Multa remembers climbing the tali tali with her sister, Agnes Multa, who was the same age as her. When Lisa got married, she took her partner to see these tali tali. From the tali tali, there is a 360-degree view of the surrounding area. The area is teeming with wild plants, especially tomatoes and bush bananas.
Kungkayunti is an important place for the traveling Tjukurrpa (Dreamings) of ancestral Arrernte women who traveled 600 km from Ntaria (Hermannsburg) to Kintore, passing through Kulpitarra (Outstation) to conduct women's ceremonies. Kungkayunti is where the women first camped. During their long journey, the women would stop at Kungkayunti to camp, rest, eat, and dance. Once they arrived at their destination, they danced, shared their stories, and renewed their Law. These women transformed into the stones we see today. Annual events continue today to reinforce this Tjukurrpa.

Presentation
Lisa Multa is an Australian Aboriginal artist of the Luritja people, born in 1975 and living in the Haasts Bluff (Ikuntji) Aboriginal community in the central Australian desert. She is part of the Ikuntji Aboriginal Artists Cooperative at Haasts Bluff.
Lisa Multa is the younger sister of traditional guardian and Aboriginal lawman Douglas Multa, and acclaimed artists Alison Multa and Patricia Multa. Lisa grew up with her family at Kungkayunti (Browns Bore), a substation located 1.5 hours southwest of Haasts Bluff. Lisa was born at Papunya Clinic in 1975, the closest clinic to Kungkayunti at the time. Kungkayunti is the ancestral land of Lisa's father, Joe Tjakamarra Multa, and her mother, Magdelena Multa Napaltjarri, is from Haasts Bluff.
Lisa began painting with the Ikuntji Artists' Cooperative in 2007, when she saw her two older sisters painting there. She explains that when she paints, she likes to think about her own connection to her ancestral land, focusing on a bird's-eye view of the tali tali (sand hills) at Kungkayunti, which she expresses in varied colors.
