Biography
Alma Nungarrayi Granites is an aboriginal painter born in 1955. She lives in Yuendumu in Northern Australia. She works as assitant profession in the teaching of Warlpiri (aboriginal language). Through this job, Alma became aware of the effort to maintain, share and preserve the Warlpiri culture and traditions. Her painting was born from this desire, to transmit not only ethics but a practice of her culture as well. By experimenting with the richness of techniques and of artistic compositions, Alma dedicates to preserve the Warlpiri tradition. A tension emanates from her canvases, opposing thus a benevolence and a calmness of the depicted nature.
Alma's work is represented in numerous Australian and international galleries specialized in high-end aboriginal art, including the Holmes in Court collection and museums in Australia.
