Biography
Walter Jangala Brown was born in 1977 in Yuendumu, an isolated Aboriginal community located 290 km northwest of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia. He comes from a long line of artists, including Pintupi artist Ronnie Tjampitjinpa, a highly regarded painter and founder of the Papunya Tula group of artists.
In 2007, barely his initiation recognized by his community he began to paint. He painted his father's Ngapa Jukurrpa (Dream of water), the Warna Jukurrpa (Dream of a serpent) and the Yumari Jukurrpa (a set of rocks located west of Kintore in the Gibson Desert). He also painted his grandfather's Tingari cycle. These dreams are directly related to its land, its characteristics and the plants and animals that inhabit it.
