Walter Leblanc is a famous Belgian painter born in Antwerp in 1932. In parallel to his advertising studies, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antwerp, without his father knowledge, he then took evening classes at the Vakschool Voor Kunstambachten, and then the Nationaal Hoger Instituut Voor Schone Kunsten of Antwerp.
In 1958, he founded the group G58, with other artists, who were offended at not seeing any Belgian artist participating at the exhibition "50 years of Modern Art" during the World Exposition.
At the beginning of his carrer, Walter Leblanc painted abstracts pieces, and started using diverse materials such as rings, paper handkerchiefs, nylon stockings and sand.......he then limited himself to the use of a single color, a single material and a single support. His creations then became monochromatic and purified.
A curious and committed artist, he decorated the Simonis Metro Station in Brussels in 1981. His sudden death in 1986 during a car accident prevented him from attending the inaguration of the station.
Walter Blanc participated at the 35th Venice Biennale in 1970. He was appointed Knight of the Order of Leopold II in 1974. Throughout his career, The artist has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. His pieces are permantently exhibited at the Oniris Gallery.
