Biography
Aguilar belongs to what is deemed the new generation of Bolivian painters. Her paintings are mostly figurative but explore deconstructions of the figures and occasional geometric abstractions, in most cases filled with vivid colors. Hers is a very refreshing approach that often focuses on the people, the collective, as her subject, often alluding to the native peoples of the Andes and their traditional costumes. The urban jungle is often depicted as an overcoat that encases the people, contrasting modernity with the ancient nature of their cultural origin, and at the same time providing a rich and colorful contrast. Aguilar has received most major national awards in painting and has exhibited widely.
