Jonathan Vandromme
France • 1983
Presentation
Jonathan Vandromme was born in 1983 in a suburb of Northern France. Self-taught, he started drawing at a very young age and later on started painting.
It is only at the age of 20, after having passed from drawing to pastel, then from graffiti to the traditional fresco type "trompe l'oeil", that he finally finds in oil painting on canvas the possibility of transforming his intimate experiences, his personal and subterranean intuitions into sensitive images.
Here the artist does not stop at a style or current of painting. What drives him is to find what he alone must paint, namely his states of mind, his inner will.
With his painting and his visual grammar, Jonathan Vandromme questions the essence of man, his quest for identity, philosophy, spirituality and his Poetic Consciousness.
It is with a profane look that he also explores questions of a sacred nature. For that, he considers that he must anchor himself in a perceived reality and flee from any social, historical or too abstract figurations, in order, quite simply, to evoke the fact that the world, as well as our experience remain and must remain uncertain.
But selfishly, "even if there were no one left on earth, I would continue to paint", the painter tries to triumph over the fleeting aspect of life, he cheats death by consoling himself in the idea of a work, and confers on the thing that seems to him the most ephemeral in the world, namely man, a portion of eternity. "It was necessary to be mortal, to savor eternity".
