Presentation

Michaël Cailloux is a sculptor and engraver born in Paris in 1975. He works and lives in Paris.

After graduating from the superior applied art Ecole Duperré in 1998, he creates with two comrades Atelier LZC. Specialized in the creation of design and textile objects. For more than 10 years they elaborate collections of printing illustrations and objects presented at Maison&Object fair, as well as unique creations for clients like Baccarat, Cartier, Habitat, Van Cleef & Arpels, S.T. Dupont...

In 2009 in Paris, Michaël Cailloux goes for an artistic adventure and learns the techniques of jewels, and etching engraving. Thus was born the concept of misappropriation straight out of his imagination: Copper "mural jewels" that he calls "mural flies" accompanied by their etchings "the etching flies".

The fly, symbol of life and death, is the signature of each of his creations referring to still-lives of the XVI century. His "mural jewels" are hand-shaped with patience and precision as a jeweler would do with its saw, bow or chisel. Before shaping and exposing it in a box as a jewel box, and embellish the wall and not a woman, he prints the jewel in a limited edition of 6 copies (etching, aquatint). He only works with 4 different colors from a limited range: silver, gold, Payne grey, and concentrated blue, as well for embossment in order to obtain etchings that are the print of the object.

Since 2014, always under the influence of nature his favorite theme, Michaël Cailloux creates its new collection with the human body and elements of nature (flowers, insects...) In the middle of his creation of his mural jewels and engravings, he launches a collection of etching printings on leather, unveiling his new influences. He also diverts his first textile art drawings with fragments of wallpapers and 100% satin silk scarfs, all in a limited edition but with a larger range of color. Which sometimes are slightly acidulous.
