Jean-Paul Bocaj et Yann Dumoget

France • 1949

Biography

The two artists worked together during Yann Dumoget's last series « Pictovirus ». In this « virale» series, Yann Dumoget decided to portray the world of other artists, providing a certain "alterity" to the work.

Jean-Paul Bocaj is a French artist born in 1949. He went to Ecole des Beaux Arts and was taught by the famous artist CESAR. He now lives and works in the South of France.

He combines his drawing with painting and airbrushing and his artistic expression can be qualified as Neo-Figurative. His works are provocative but never vulgar.

Jean-Paul Bocaj's favorite theme is women and bright acrylic colors allow him to portray the beauty of the feminine body.

Yann Dumoget is a French artist born in 1970, he studied history of art at Université Paul Valéry in Montpellier.

He began painting as a profession in 1999 and this is when he came up with a crazy project of doing 1 painting per day which meant 366 paintings and asked his parents, friends and artists to help along with markers. This performance was highly publicized, just like his Doklomenta project, which he achieved during the 11th edition of the famous documentary by Kassel.

A follower of relational aesthetic, theorized by the critique Nicolas Bourriaud, he involves his audience with the help of markers. He then documents his actions through photography, video or even music.
