Biography
Arthur Hent (born 1973) is a contemporary French artist based in Nantes. For over fifteen years, he has been developing a unique body of work that blends abstract art, algorithms, and introspection.
His practice is based on a unique principle: hand-drawn drawings guided by an algorithm he designed himself. Each work follows a strict protocol: starting from the center, building a body, and giving life to a structure that allows the artist to translate his inner states into original geometric forms.
Inspired as much by primitive forms (such as Lapita pottery during a stay in New Caledonia) as by contemporary technologies, Arthur Hent offers abstract, minimalist and emotionally charged self-portraits.
Since 2009, his work has explored the relationship between man and machine, individual memory and coded systems, bringing his practice to the heart of technological developments and their effects on the living world.
In 2017, he was chosen by the Benetton Foundation to appear in a publication bringing together a selection of contemporary French artists.
His works are featured in private collections from New York to Singapore, Berlin and Paris.
