
Biography
Born in Manila, Philippines in 1932, Federico Aguila Alcuaz was a visual artist whose work garnered both national and international recognition. The artist’s body of work is remembered for its diverse use of watercolor, textiles and sculpture mediums. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered Alcuaz a scholarship in 1955 to pursue his artistic studies in Madrid. This led the artist to establish himself and his art on an international scale.
Alcuaz’ work has been featured in the collections of several international galleries, including Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona, the Museum of Contemporary Art Madrid, and the Museum of Modern Art Warsaw. Upon his ultimate return to his native Philippines, he was conferred the Order of National Artist for Visual Art. The artist died in 2011.
