Biography
Anton Smith is an internationally renowned South African sculptor whose work explores the notion of man as a medium in constant dialogue with nature. The artist envisions his creations as part of a vital and uninterrupted flux in dialogue with nature. Focusing in this respect on the extraordinary budding of singularity, his work shares a raw, earthy qualitative power that feels innately African and communicates powerfully on deep emotional levels. It is also characterized by an overriding structural mastery coupled to fine detailed work. Widely revered for his overwhelming heads and monumental sculptures evoking themes of suffering and reconciliation, glory and sublimation, Smit lives and works in his native South Africa, also home of the artist’s Sculpture Park. His works is present in many public and private collections internationally.
