María Álvarez, Valencia 1974. Conceptually minimalist, her painting is the result of a process of interiorization, interpretation of reality that she carries out with no other purpose than creative honesty and purity. Paintings that refer to life, to the world shared by souls, entities and landscapes. Canvases in which there is only what moves or should be there:
The human being in his cosmic solitude, meditative on the whole and the doubt of existing; the straight line and the exempt plane, with its vocation of home, of shelter and illusory protection; and the enveloping nature, contained in itself, in its dense or naked vegetal roundness, although extended towards paths that tend to the innate or converge in superimposed realities.
The atmosphere, also and above all, like a subtle perfume that scents the painting from corner to corner, brushstroke to brushstroke, that bathes it in harmony and tonal balance, and, by n, the light, a warm light that suggests the sunset and induces us to think about the coming night, about what is worthwhile and what is not. Showcases of the existential soliloquy, these works embody an imaginary universe closer to Bosch than to the surrealists, they form a space of their own that, by the stroke and compositional sobriety, somehow links with the Italian metaphysical avant-garde of the thirties.
After almost three lustrums since his first exhibition, his trajectory has maintained the iconography and primordial keys of his beginnings: the expressiveness of silence, the statuary guration, the landscape as existential metaphor, the minimalism and the scenic cleanliness, keys that survive in the time matured and enriched by the leisure and the talent.
