Presentation

Luis Pérez Calvo (Madrid, 1962) is a painter and illustrator whose work draws on directly from circus, cinema, popular urban music, to poke around flea markets, festivals and old comics.

Created among Madrid popular neighborhoods, its imagery responds to the most popular culture of the Spanish from the '60s to the' 80s. Thus, in his works we find together the Beach Boys, Superman, Batman or the characters of Ibáñez; classic food dishes with fragments of old magazines and wrappers of Bazooka chewing gum or advertising for Lagarto soaps.

Luis Perez Calvo –named as an archaeologist of popular culture_ re-reads, paints, draws, slashes, sticks, ironises and unceasingly honors all those beings and memories that populate his memory and that he tries to recover in a melancholy but fun attempt by to catch a fetishized society of a recent past that disappears little by little.
