David Carson is an American graphic designer and designer born in 1955.

Known for his typographic aesthetic, David Carson breaks certain codes of typography by playing with typefaces and creating a dialogue between texts and images, particularly for magazine layouts, such as for the design of the Ray Gun magazine in early 90s .

A graduate in sociology, David Carson discovered graphic design during a course at the University of Arizona. He became a teacher from 1982 to 1987 at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego. David Ray Carson is also a surf fan and professional surfer. In 1984, he became the artistic director of Transworld Skateboarding and Snowboarding magazine.
