Artist Statement:
Born and raised in northeast Ohio, Sylvia Shanahan graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Graphic Design/Illustration. Ohio is also where she enjoyed a successful career in marketing, advertising and sales at several nationally known consumer products companies.
Throughout her career though, she made time for her love of fine art--a love that started early in life through family outings to the Cleveland Museum of Art. “I would have started drawing earlier, but I was such an active child," she jokes. “I never had the discipline to sit still. I could be found playing neighborhood baseball, climbing a tree or exploring the fields and 'soon-to-be-built-on' vacant lots in our area. My friends and I were always hunting for new places to discover 'untouched' nature."
Shanahan believes that these childhood experiences evolved into an almost reverent love for landscape painting. Where she once scouted for natural vistas, she now explores new territory in color and technique. “My goal is to represent more than what is seen by the naked eye," she states. “I manipulate and juxtapose color to create the energy of the scene. So much is involved when looking at nature. The time of day, the temperature, the wind, the fragrances, the noise or lack of....even your mood affects the experience. I try to convey the visual, along with the sensual and emotional experience too."
Her approach to painting was noticed by Magical Blend Magazine in the mid-90s where her painting, “The Soul Remembers" was featured. Since then her work has won several local awards in Ohio and Florida and has also shown in Vermont and Georgia. Her painting, "Ophelia's Pond Revisited" was selected to be included in Samsung's Frame TV, enabling a worldwide audience. Other works can be seen at Woodfield Fine Art in St. Petersburg, FL, Coastal Market in Largo, FL, Savvy Designs and Unique Finds in Trinity, FL , Dunedin Fine Art Center Gift Shop and her studio by appointment. Work can also be seen on Saatchi Art.
Shanahan currently lives in Largo. Past and present affiliations include The Akron Society of Artists, Creative Artists Guild, Beach Art Center, Dunedin Fine Arts Center, and The Morean Art Center.

Can I negotiate the price of an artwork?
For some artworks, you can negotiate the price. If the price of the work is negotiable, you have a “Make an offer” button under the “Buy this work” one.
To submit your offer, you must make a payment of the desired amount. Your offer will then be forwarded to the gallery, which reserves the right to accept or reject it. If your offer is accepted, it means that your order is confirmed by the gallery and they will prepare the artwork for shipment. If your offer is rejected, you will be refunded the total amount paid automatically. The gallery can also propose a counter-offer for the acquisition of the artwork.

Where can I have my order delivered?
Artsper delivers worldwide!
However, please note that once your order reaches its destination, it may be subject to VAT or other customs fees. These charges are beyond our control and you will be responsible for paying them (this is indicated at the ‘checkout’ first step).
Select the delivery address of your choice. Please make sure that someone is present to receive your order.
If your billing address is different to your delivery address you can specify this at the checkout.
Return and cancellation
You can return the artwork without needing to provide a reason or pay a penalty fee up to 14 days after receiving your order.
In the case that the right of withdrawal is exercised in the aforementioned time frame, the price of the artwork(s) purchased and the shipping costs will be reimbursed by us as soon as the gallery has received the artwork and notified us.
Artsper will manage the return of the work and will bear the cost of returns (which will either be paid by you and refunded by Artsper or directly paid by Artsper).
The artwork must be returned in perfect condition and in its original packaging (or equivalent).
