HENRI PERSON (1876 - 1926): Henri Person was a French painter associated with the Post-Impressionist and Fauvist traditions, best known for his luminous landscapes, harbor scenes, and views of the Mediterranean coast. Born in Saint-Maurice, France, he studied under the painter Henri Martin and became particularly influenced by the freedom of the Fauvist approach to color and brushwork. Person traveled extensively throughout southern France and the Mediterranean, painting scenes of ports, sailboats, coastal villages, and sunlit landscapes. His work is characterized by vivid yet harmonious color, expressive brushwork, and an emphasis on capturing the changing effects of light and atmosphere. Person exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne in Paris and became especially associated with the artistic community of Saint-Tropez, where he worked alongside other painters inspired by the Mediterranean landscape. His paintings remain represented in museums and private collections and are recognized for their contribution to the development of modern French landscape painting.
