Biography

Elena Lyapina is a contemporary Russian artist whose practice explores the relationship between consciousness, inner states and the spontaneous origins of creativity. Working at the intersection of abstract, figurative and symbolic art, she experiments with diverse painting techniques to translate intangible experiences into expressive visual forms.

Inspired by the philosophy of ancient Chinese painting, Lyapina approaches the creative process as an act of meditation, where gesture, movement and the physical interaction between brush and surface become essential elements of artistic expression. Her works capture the energy of the moment, allowing colour, line and texture to evolve through an intuitive and deeply personal dialogue with materials.

Alongside painting, Lyapina develops graphic and photographic series and writes poetry, extending her exploration of perception and the inner world across different artistic disciplines.

A graduate of the Russian State University for the Humanities, where she studied art history and art design, Lyapina has been actively exhibiting since 2013. She has participated in more than 30 solo and group exhibitions across Russia, Europe, the United States and Africa. In 2017, she became a member of the Union of Abstractionists of Russia, and in 2023 she was awarded first place at the International Abstraction Festival in Moscow.

Her work has been featured in , produced by A Ludvig Rage Production in Berlin in 2020, and is held in private collections in Russia, Uzbekistan, India, Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Canada and the United States. Her works have also been presented by Scala Gallery in Istanbul, Decollageartspace in Istanbul and the online gallery Kvartira S.

Based in Moscow, Lyapina continues to explore painting as a living, intuitive process through which inner experience becomes visible and the energy of creation takes material form.
