Biography

EDNA HIBEL (1917 - 2014): Edna Hibel was an American painter, printmaker, and philanthropist best known for her tender, luminous depictions of women, children, and family life. Born in Superior, Wisconsin, in 1917, she displayed artistic talent from an early age and studied at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts. Hibel developed a highly recognizable style combining delicate draftsmanship, soft colors, and expressive, often idealized figures. Her work was influenced by European Old Masters and Renaissance art, as well as the Russian and Italian traditions she encountered during extensive travels. She worked in numerous media, including oil, watercolor, pastel, lithography, and mixed media, and became particularly renowned for her limited-edition prints. Hibel established galleries and studios in Massachusetts and Florida and exhibited her work internationally. Her art was collected by numerous prominent individuals and institutions, and she received many honors during her career. Hibel was also deeply involved in charitable causes, particularly those benefiting children. She died in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, in 2014 at the age of 97.
