JAMES COLEMAN (1949 - ): James Coleman is an American painter and former Disney animation artist best known for his luminous landscapes, vibrant colors, and highly detailed compositions. Born in Hollywood, California, in 1949, Coleman began his career at Walt Disney Studios in 1969 after his artwork attracted the attention of Disney artists. Over the course of 22 years, he became a background painting specialist and supervisor, contributing to more than a dozen animated films, including , , , , and . In 1991, Coleman left Disney to pursue fine art full-time. Drawing on his experience in animation, he developed a distinctive approach to landscape painting that emphasizes dramatic composition, luminous light, rich color, and romantic atmosphere. Working in oil, watercolor, gouache, pastel, and mixed media, his subjects include sweeping natural landscapes, tropical forests, deserts, coastal scenes, and European villages. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally and is represented by galleries throughout North America, Asia, and the Hawaiian Islands.
