Biography

JOHN MORRIS (BEFORE 1920 - 1991): John Morris was an American Impressionist painter born in Laguna Beach, California, known for landscapes, portraits, and Paris street scenes. He developed an interest in painting at an early age, beginning to paint portraits at local fairs when he was fifteen, and continued to study and work independently before serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. During the war, Morris served as an official combat artist in the South Pacific, and his work was included in an exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. He later traveled and painted extensively in Europe, including Italy, England, and France, where the influence of Impressionism and European artistic traditions became evident in his work. Morris was particularly interested in capturing the character and essence of his subjects rather than simply reproducing their outward appearance. His paintings were exhibited in major American cities including New York, Chicago, and Palm Beach, and his work is represented in prominent collections, including the Vatican galleries.
