Biography

RAYMOND KNAUB (1940 - ): Raymond Knaub is an American painter known for his evocative landscapes, rural scenes, and Western subjects. Born and raised in a farming family in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Knaub developed an early connection to the land that became central to his artistic vision. Although he initially studied mathematics and engineering on an athletic scholarship in Texas, a drawing class inspired him to pursue art, leading him to return to Nebraska and earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nebraska before completing graduate studies at the University of Colorado. Working primarily in oil, Knaub paints landscapes based on actual places but interprets them through a deeply personal and emotional perspective rather than strict realism. His paintings are characterized by harmony, luminous light, spacious compositions, and a reverence for the land, and are often described as examples of Romantic Realism. His subjects range from the Great Plains and rural America to the American West, including New Mexico and the Southwest. Knaub has exhibited widely in the United States and abroad, and his work is held in collections including the Museum of Nebraska Art.
