Biography

THOMAS DEDECKER (1951 - ): Thomas deDecker is an American painter born in Appleton, Wisconsin, whose work is deeply rooted in the landscapes and Native American cultures of the American West. Originally interested in archaeology and anthropology, he discovered a passion for painting while attending Brigham Young University and, after college, traveled extensively throughout the West before settling in Washington State because of his interest in the Plains tribes. DeDecker is particularly known for traditional paintings depicting Native American life and customs before 1880, as well as Western landscapes influenced by the Hudson River School tradition. His landscapes emphasize tranquility, natural beauty, dramatic light, and carefully observed details, often portraying mountain settings, wildflowers, waterways, and expansive wilderness. He has received numerous local, national, and international awards, including Artist of the Year and Outstanding Artist recognition from the C.M. Russell Museum, and is a member of the American Royal Western Artists. DeDecker has exhibited widely and his paintings are held in private and public collections throughout the United States.
