Biography

MARION RICE (1905 - 1994): Marion Rice was an American painter known for her Impressionist portraits, figures, still lifes, and landscapes. Born in 1905, she developed a distinctive style characterized by vibrant color, carefully observed detail, and a graceful treatment of her subjects. Rice was particularly prolific as a painter of floral still lifes, portraits of women, and scenes inspired by European settings, including views of France. Her floral compositions became especially popular and were reproduced as lithographic prints, bringing her work to a broad audience. Although relatively little biographical information survives about her life and training, records indicate that she lived and worked in New York during the 1940s and 1950s and exhibited and sold extensively. Today, her paintings continue to appear in the American art market and are represented in private collections.
