How About Some Salo?, 2026

Kateryna Kostyk

Like every artwork from my *Village* series, this one carries the warm atmosphere of home.

The composition captures a classic Ukrainian countryside treat: salo sizzling over an open fire, accompanied by fresh bread and onion. A simple, quick meal, often prepared during picnics, yet full of familiar memories.

Anyone who has ever tasted this combination can almost smell it just by looking at the artwork.

You can almost hear the dogs playing nearby, waiting for their little piece, and a brother running around the yard, being more of a distraction than a helper while the family prepares this simple feast.

It's about food, family, and those little moments that make a place feel like home.

This artwork belongs to the "VILLAGE" series.
This series feels like a gentle breeze, the sound of crickets on a warm evening, the crowing of roosters at five in the morning.
It's waking up early to work in the garden before the burning sun appears.
It's eating the simplest sandwiches out in the field, yet they taste like the best you've ever had.
It's the cool tea brewed with mint and lemon balm that refreshes you in the summer heat.
It's the joy of seeing swallows faithfully return each year to the little nest they once built.
It's walking through quiet village streets at dusk, without the rush of cars or crowds — just you, nature, and the calm mood of the evening.

This series is special to me — my first one!
It shows simple, real life, away from today's focus on wealth and perfection.
A life where you can relax, connect with nature, and enjoy the little things that truly matter.
