Description
This vibrant artwork portrays a picturesque aerial view of a quaint village, enveloped in warm, earthy tones that transition gently into lush greens and ethereal blues, capturing a serene countryside. The intricate blend of colors and textures creates a dreamlike scene, where the rustic red rooftops and timeworn stone structures form a harmonious contrast against sprawling fields. The artist masterfully uses abstraction to suggest the charming hustle of village life, evoking both tranquility and a sense of timelessness. The dynamic brushwork and layered composition invite viewers to explore the depth and movement thoughtfully embedded in the painting. This piece uniquely captures the essence of rural beauty, transporting the audience to a landscape both familiar and fantastical, showcasing the artist's exceptional skill in merging reality with impressionist imagination.
Presentation
Born in Turin, Italy in 1963, Alex Bertaina's creative expression began in early childhood where his passion for drawing and bold colours originated. Though Alex considers art to be his primary tool for communicating with the world, it wasn't until an injury in his mid-20's left him homebound, that he began to focus on his dream of becoming an artist.
As a self-taught painter, Alex never attended art school. However, in 1988 he was mentored under the guidance of Master, Marco lattes. From here he began to refine his technical skills and knowledge. Bertaina has since gone on to exhibit across Europe and beyond. In 2014 his work saw him awarded the prestigious title of Taipei's 'Master of the Year' and in 2016, Ukrainian composer Nik Savinich dedicated a session of his piano recordings to Alex, simply titled 'Bertaina'.
Currently living and working in Cuneo, Northwest Italy, Alex says “Painting is for me this dreamed landscape [consisting of] vertical or horizontal cuts… superimposing interplays, dismantled and dense images that look like rainbow geometries full of light and colour, [reflecting] its vibrancy and brilliance".
