Description
In Voiliers au départ de la course, Alain captures the suspended moment when tension reaches its peak, just before the decisive surge. In the foreground, a sailboat emerges in a burst of foam, as if ready to break beyond the frame. Its dynamic, sharp bow drives a powerful diagonal that leads the eye toward the more diffused silhouettes of competitors in the background.
The work plays on a subtle balance between figuration and abstraction. The hulls and crews are suggested through nervous strokes and strong contrasts, while the sails rise in a rhythmic, almost architectural verticality. The sand collage introduces a raw, mineral texture, reinforcing the sensation of the wind and the swell. The paper integrated into the sails provides vibration and fragility, catching the light like canvas stretched by the sea breeze. The palette, dominated by rosy ochres, dialogues harmoniously with shades of grey and sandy textures. These warm, mineral tones lend the scene a contemporary elegance, where movement is born as much from the matter as from the subject.
Presentation
Painting is a material and spiritual journey that I take around my first passions, mountains, water, sailing, sea and music. Since my beginnings in 1974, I have trained with other painters. First very inspired by the vibration of colors in the Impressionists and the Fauvists, I turned in the 80s to watercolor, whose transparencies I appreciate.
Finally around the 2000s, I discovered contemporary painting and mixed techniques opening up the field of possibilities. Indeed, by preparing my paintings with collages of paper and sand, I create textures where the paint, very diluted in the manner of watercolors, reacts by drainage or by diffusion to leave its own mark. By the gesture, I print the energies. By the softness of the transparencies and the relationship to emptiness, I register my emotions. Each painting thus invites to a poetic journey.
