Description
The artist explores here the boundary between figuration and abstraction.
A female silhouette emerges from a dark, almost nocturnal background.
The body is outlined by touches of white and light blue, suggesting a luminous presence in the darkness.
On the left, an earthy ochre organic shape brings a warm and dynamic contrast to the composition.
The oil work favors the material and the gesture, creating a subtle relief on the canvas.
The composition plays on colored masses to evoke a mysterious portrait.
The shades of green on the right evoke a vegetal environment or a dimly lit interior space.
This painting from 1993 testifies to a research into light and the human form.
The pictorial rendering leaves room for interpretation while maintaining a precise figurative structure.
Presentation
Serge Plagnol is a French painter, lithographer and engraver born in 1951 in Toulon.
He teaches at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Nîmes.
His work is present in many institutions and several museums.
"What could I say more beautiful about Serge Plagnol's painting if not that it is the bearer of life, if not that it is life itself?" - Olivier Céna
"He sets the color and in our eye there is a body, always that of a woman, or rather that of the woman who is in us, who is in him and who falls under desire, it is not a image, but through painting, the sign which carries life, perpetuates it and never stops it. " - Alin Avila
