A Bouquet of Autumnal Doubts, 2026

Natalia Koval

“A Bouquet of Autumnal Doubts" is a sensory immersion into a space of inner reflection, where a familiar still life transforms into a visual archive of feelings and fleeting memories.
The canvas depicts a lush bouquet in a light-colored vase against a deep blue-turquoise background, which has the texture of an old, time-worn mirror or plaster. The decorative rhythm of the petals in shades of pink, lilac, and coral-ochre resonates with the neo-expressionist freedom of the brushstrokes. The flowers seem not merely like plants, but like fragments of the past etched into memory each bud holds a specific emotional experience, a doubt, or a moment of found peace.
The vase lends the canvas a special expressiveness. Its surface seeks not merely to reflect the world around it, but serves as a container for inner landscapes. The layered patterns, geometric spots, and contrasting terracotta-and-purple hues inside the vase evoke the layering of time, a process through which a person constructs their own identity.
Here, autumn serves as a time for taking stock, when doubts become a necessary step on the path to wholeness. This work invites the viewer to pause and immerse themselves in their own “archiving of memory," examining the layers of their past through the prism of color and form.
