Description
A passage of yellow opens through a quiet field of grey and blue.
In Rift of Light, Inna Pupina builds an abstract composition around the meeting of concentrated brightness and restrained colour. A luminous vertical band extends from the upper to the lower edge of the square canvas, giving the work an immediate sense of direction.
Within this band, yellow meets ochre, cream and warmer orange tones. The paint gathers in textured passages, revealing ridges, overlapping gestures and irregular contours. A fine black fissure moves through the colour, sometimes narrowing into a thread and sometimes widening into small branching forms.
This dark line gives the light an unexpected complexity. The central passage can suggest a break, an opening or a seam through which warmth becomes visible. These associations remain open, allowing the viewer to discover a personal reading.
Around it, charcoal and grey create a spacious, quieter atmosphere. Muted blue and green brushstrokes soften the darker areas, while loosely defined rectangular forms introduce an architectural quality. On the right, blue marks surround a dark field; on the left, pale green and blue passages appear within the grey.
The contrast between these broad, subdued areas and the textured yellow centre gives the painting its distinctive balance. From a distance, the luminous vertical establishes a strong focal point. Closer observation reveals the individual gestures and variations that animate the surface.
Its intimate square format allows these details to be appreciated closely, bringing a vivid accent to a reading room, study or carefully arranged living space.

Presentation
Inna Pupina is a contemporary painter whose practice centres on the emotional life of landscape. Working exclusively in acrylic on canvas, she develops compositions that move beyond topographical description toward atmosphere, sensation and inner experience.
Her signature approach combines expressive layering, refined colour harmonies and a sustained attention to light — particularly the luminous, shifting quality of Nordic and Eastern European natural environments. Forests, water and sky recur throughout her work not as subjects to be recorded, but as vehicles for contemplating stillness, time and the passage between states.
Pupina's paintings are characterised by their chromatic depth: violets, blues and greens are built through successive transparent glazes, generating a sense of visual resonance that photographs rarely capture in full. The surface holds both spontaneity and control — gestural passages sit alongside areas of quiet precision, creating compositions that reward sustained looking.
Represented by Abstract Art Gallery since 2013, Inna Pupina's original works are held in private collections across Europe. Her paintings are appreciated for their capacity to transform a domestic or professional interior into a space of contemplation — present without being intrusive, decorative without being passive.
She exhibits internationally and continues to develop her practice from her studio in Riga, Latvia.
