Description
The painting conveys the winter quiet of the city, painted in thick impasto strokes that create the effect of textured snow. The buildings have elegant architecture in the style of European townhouses, with mansards and graceful rooflines.
The whole composition is executed in a light, almost monochrome palette: shades of gray, white and cream with barely noticeable pinkish-violet accents. This softness of color heightens the atmosphere of winter calm and light mist.
The paint is applied very generously, in relief, so the snow on the roofs and cornices seems dimensional, almost tangible. The windows are marked with barely visible darker strokes, which adds depth to the buildings. The tops of the chimneys and the architectural elements are painted more distinctly but still remain within the overall soft tonality.
The overall impression is that of a poetic winter landscape of old Paris, filled with quiet, air and the sense of a frozen moment.
