Description
The urban architecture is revealed here from a singular angle. The gaze plunges into an interweaving of zinc roofs. The lines intersect with precision. They create a rigorous geometric rhythm.
Grey dominates the composition. Shades of lead and slate respond to it. The light glides over the metallic surfaces. It sculpts the volumes with sobriety.
Two brick chimneys bring a touch of warmth. Their earthy red breaks the chromatic monotony. These vertical elements anchor the scene in an familiar everyday life.
Silence settles in this mineral landscape. The solitude of the summit offers a peaceful perspective on the city. The oil painting emphasizes the texture and the depth of the planes.
The artist captures a suspended moment. She explores the perception of space and the passage of time through streamlined forms. The final rendering favors clarity and visual balance.
The grain of the canvas remains visible under the layers of pigment. The sharp contours define every edge of the roof.
Presentation
Marie-France Garrigues was born in Montauban, the city of Ingres and Bourdelle. During her teenage years, she studied drawing in the workshop of sculptor Flavio de Faveri. These years allowed her to quickly express herself through this art. At the same time, scientific studies led her to live in French Polynesia, where she worked as an investment operations manager in the building sector for the Territory of French Polynesia, and later as a project manager for the President.
Upon returning to mainland France in the 2000s, she diversified her artistic techniques, dedicating herself primarily to oil painting after studying this medium at the Beaux-Arts in Paris with Gilles Marey.
In 2010, painting became her sole activity, and she participated in various solo and group exhibitions in France and internationally, sharing her art worldwide.
In 2018, she was named a Member of the Société des Artistes Français; in 2019, a Member of the Taylor Foundation; in 2022, a Member of the Salon Violet; and in 2024, a Member of the Salon d'Automne.
The city inspires her, and she enjoys exploring architecture and its diverse perceptions: capturing freedom, modernity, the passage of time, light, solitude, and silence.
