Description
A solitary figure occupies the center of the composition. Sitting on the floor, she adopts a stable, almost hieratic posture. The gaze is masked by dark glasses. This absence of eye contact establishes an immediate distance.
The pictorial treatment favors marked contrasts. The deep black of the dress and shoes opposes the clarity of the background. The background unfolds in broad, gestural strokes. This oil work emphasizes a modern figurative approach.
In the foreground, a series of red roses brings a chromatic break. The flowers form a protective or melancholic arc around the character. The brush captures the texture of the petals with precision.
The whole plays on a tension between rigor and spontaneity. The composition balances the verticality of the body and the horizontality of the floor. The scene captures a suspended moment. The rendering of the flesh tones and shadows reinforces the physical presence of the model. This 2025 painting explores urban solitude through a stripped-down portrait. Each brushstroke emphasizes the movement and attitude of the subject.

Presentation
Olivier Massebeuf is a French painter, born in Lyon in 1963. He moved to Paris in 1982 when he was admitted in the Fine Arts School. He wasn't at ease with this institution and its teachings: he dropped out a year later and began a course in English, but didn't give up on painting.
The artist does figurative painting, and is fascinated by gesture and movement, inspiring life, in his lifelike characters.
