Peonies and Oranges – Original Contemporary Floral Still Life Painting by French Artist Natalya Mougenot

Peonies and Oranges is an original contemporary floral still life painting by French artist Natalya Mougenot, measuring 50 × 65 cm (19.7 × 25.6 inches). Created with acrylic paint on heavyweight professional acid-free paper and finished with a protective varnish, this expressive artwork brings together the beauty of flowers and everyday objects through vibrant colours, spontaneous brushwork and an intuitive approach to painting.

For Natalya, painting is not about reproducing reality but about expressing her personal perception of the world. She is drawn to the emotional power of colour, the freedom of expressive gestures and the unexpected relationships that emerge between shapes and forms. Her artistic language moves between figuration and abstraction, allowing familiar subjects to become personal interpretations filled with movement and emotion.

In Peonies and Oranges, pink peonies and bright orange fruits create a lively dialogue of contrasting colours. The flowers, loosely arranged in a turquoise glass vase, bring a sense of delicacy, while the oranges gathered in a blue bowl introduce warmth, abundance and an almost Mediterranean feeling. Soft green and pale yellow tones in the background create a luminous atmosphere, allowing the pink, orange and turquoise to stand out.

Rather than focusing on realistic details, Natalya uses expressive brushstrokes, layered colours and visible painterly gestures to capture the feeling of a beautiful everyday moment. There is a certain spontaneity and imperfection in the composition that makes it feel alive and personal.

Authenticity is central to Natalya's artistic practice. She values the honesty of the creative gesture, allowing each painting to evolve naturally rather than following a predetermined image. For her, art is about emotion, freedom and the beauty of seeing familiar things through a different perspective.

With its joyful colour palette and contemporary interpretation of still life, Peonies and Oranges brings warmth, freshness and a touch of Mediterranean charm into an interior. It may appeal to art lovers who appreciate expressive floral painting, contemporary still life, vibrant colours and the spontaneity of gestural art.

A distinctive addition to modern, contemporary, eclectic or Mediterranean-inspired interiors, this original artwork would bring personality and colour to a living room, kitchen, dining area or creative space.
