White Paintings for Sale
According to Isaac Newton, white is not a colour, but "the hue obtained by mixing the light of all colours". This is why in the West it is given a sense of unity, of perfect balance, of the sacred. In our minds, however, it is the absolute absence of colour. So non-colour or colour revealer? Throughout the art history, white has inspired many painters, from Lucio Fontana to Kasimir Malevitch and Robert Ryman. In this selection are the paintings, monochrome or polychrome, which sublimate white.
