Description
The artist explores the material in all its density here. The composition is divided into two distinct areas.
The lower register is established by a tormented relief. A mixture of acrylic and pigments creates a rugged surface. The shades of earth and brown evoke ancient geological strata. The mixed media work brings a tactile and organic thickness.
In contrast, the upper part opens up to a lunar clarity. The addition of resin brings a translucent depth. The light glides over this smooth and pale surface, suggesting a distant horizon or a calm expanse of water.
This abstract painting plays on the opposition between the rough and the polished. It transforms the landscape into a study on sedimentation. The chromatic balance emphasizes the tension between the heaviness of the earth and the lightness of the sky.
The precise execution reveals a technical mastery of the support. The whole forms a dialogue between rock and void. The canvas ends with a sharp transition where the pigments fade to give way to transparency.
The work is created using a mixed technique on canvas, combining, in particular, pigments, ashes, resins, crushed papers, and acrylic paint.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
