Description
unique sepia print from an analog photograph of Bze
Glossy paper
Bze (2004)
"Photos of the road, the street, the margin and its people"
This print is from the book "OVERGROUND, déroutants voyageurs", 2006, Bze & Tomski, Paris, Editions Alternatives.
This photograph captures the incessant flow of an urban artery. The gaze overlooks a street where vehicles fade into a kinetic blur. The composition emphasizes the verticality of a bare tree against the rigidity of the facades.
The monochrome rendering accentuates the grain of the image. This treatment recalls the raw aesthetic of urban archives. Handwritten annotations border the frame. They bring a graphic and personal dimension to the shot.
The work explores the boundary between photography and calligraphy. The city becomes a field of visual experimentation. The image freezes a moment of transition in modern architecture.
This limited edition is made in the form of a fine art print on paper. The work dates from 2008.
Presentation
Bze has been tagging since he was 12. He writes on his school table, his clothes, the walls and public transport in his environment.
In parallel with university studies in photography and cinema, Bze explored the underground corners of Europe with his film camera, hunting for the aesthetics of the road, the street, the margins and its people. Since 1999, through exhibitions and slideshows between Granada and Rotterdam, he has shared his thousands of slides. In 2006, Bze finalized his photographic journey with a book called Overground, confusing travelers published by Éditions Alternatives. A unique, almost sociological look, revealed by a selection of more than 600 photographs of the counterculture with its communities, demonstrations, squats, free parties...
Following his meeting with the artist Nef, they created the Nef&bze© graphic studio (focused on electronic music).
Returning to his roots, the aesthetics of the letter, Bze devotes himself in the studio to painting on canvas or paper. His contemporary calligraphy, Neo-writer, tends towards minimal abstractionism.
An artistic journey marked by diversity and authenticity, a thirst to share.
