Description
This pull is from the book "OVERGROUND, déroutants voyageurs", 2006, Bze & Tomski, Paris, Editions Alternatives.
“Photos of the road, the street, the margin and its people"
unique pull from LARZAC
Analog photograph by Bze in Lyon, superposition (on analog film, no digital retouching).
Bze (2004) Hand-enhanced by BZE and MOPE 23
Glossy paper.
A scene captured in the moment. The gaze plunges into the effervescence of a gathering. A crowd assembles under an imposing banner. The atmosphere evokes clandestine parties and marginal culture.
The work mixes photography and ink interventions. The black line highlights the silhouettes. It rhythms the composition as in a comic strip panel. Each figure becomes a graphic outline. The rendering oscillates between sociological document and urban abstraction.
The appreciation for street aesthetics guides the gesture. The contrast between the grain of the image and the precision of the drawing brings visual depth. The composition emphasizes the collective movement and the spirit of freedom.
This work dates from 2004. It is made via a fine art print on paper, combining photography and ink.
Presentation
Bze has been tagging since he was 12. He writes on his school table, his clothes, the walls and public transport in his environment.
In parallel with university studies in photography and cinema, Bze explored the underground corners of Europe with his film camera, hunting for the aesthetics of the road, the street, the margins and its people. Since 1999, through exhibitions and slideshows between Granada and Rotterdam, he has shared his thousands of slides. In 2006, Bze finalized his photographic journey with a book called Overground, confusing travelers published by Éditions Alternatives. A unique, almost sociological look, revealed by a selection of more than 600 photographs of the counterculture with its communities, demonstrations, squats, free parties...
Following his meeting with the artist Nef, they created the Nef&bze© graphic studio (focused on electronic music).
Returning to his roots, the aesthetics of the letter, Bze devotes himself in the studio to painting on canvas or paper. His contemporary calligraphy, Neo-writer, tends towards minimal abstractionism.
An artistic journey marked by diversity and authenticity, a thirst to share.
