A generous silhouette settles with assurance. The body occupies the space with a frank presence. The artist highlights the curves with almost photographic precision. A play of contrasts marks the composition.
The deep black of the undergarments responds to the stripes of the sofa. These vertical and horizontal lines structure the scene. The background, treated in neutral and textured tones, leaves all the room for the subject.
The posture evokes a moment of intimate rest. The skin captures the light softly. The balance between the graphic design of the furniture and the naturalness of the forms creates a controlled visual tension.
This composition plays on geometry and roundness. The gaze concentrates on the materiality of the body and the rhythm of the patterns.
This is a limited edition numbered 21 out of 25. The print features an original signature in the bottom right.
Presentation
Far from the slender young girls of magazines, it is in curves that we find the models of Jeanne Lorioz, painter, born in 1954.
After studying at the École supérieure des Arts Appliqués, Jeanne Lorioz works as an interior decorator. During her studies, she specialized in modeling and anatomy, two predispositions that will later appear in her paintings.
The women that Jeanne Lorioz depicts in her drawings position themselves as worthy descendants of the "Nanas" of Niki de Saint-Phalle. Sulfurous and provocative, they celebrate womanhood in its entirety. In a glance, these ambassadors of pleasure inspire a feeling of epicureanism and joviality.
Two elements catch our eye in these women, their light clothing as well as their particularly developed buttocks which are highlighted by their back positions and their weighted dresses. Seductive yes, but never vulgar. Alone, among friends or with children, they are depicted in their daily lives. Through her paintings, Jeanne Lorioz presents us with the portrait of the woman who can be a woman and a mother without being confined to a single role.
Throughout her career, Jeanne Lorioz has exhibited her work in many galleries and art fairs in France and internationally.
