Description
Photogravure and aquatint by Regina Silveira (Porto Alegre, 1939), one of the most influential Brazilian artists of her generation, from the series "Eclipses" (2005). The work is part of that collection but is sold individually. Since the 1980s Silveira has investigated shadow, perspective and distortion: everyday objects cast impossible, elongated or displaced silhouettes that unsettle the viewer's trust in what is seen. "Enchufe" (the Spanish word for an electrical plug or socket) belongs to this repertoire of domestic objects turned enigmatic, and the series title points to the play of occlusion and projected darkness at the core of her practice. The pairing of photogravure with aquatint joins photographic precision to deep, velvety blacks. Sheet 69.5 x 48.5 cm. Silveira's work is held by major museums in the Americas and Europe; her prints are comparatively scarce on the market.

As a fellow of the Instituto de Cultura Hispánica, in 1967, he studied at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of Madrid. In 1969, she is invited to teach courses at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Puerto Rico.
He returned to Brazil in 1973 and coordinated until 1985 the engraving sector of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (Faap).
