Description
Lithograph by Enrique Santana, the Spanish-born, Chicago-based realist painter, published in 2026 in a limited edition. The subject is 333 West Wacker Drive, the celebrated office tower completed in 1983 to designs by Kohn Pedersen Fox, whose sweeping curved façade of green glass follows the bend of the Chicago River and mirrors the sky and the city around it. Santana has made the architecture of Chicago – its bridges, elevated tracks and glass curtain walls – the central theme of his work, approaching it with a precise, luminous realism attentive above all to reflections and atmosphere. The building's mirrored surface offers an ideal motif: a picture within the picture, in which the city appears fragmented and recomposed. Lithography adds a graphic, drawn quality to this play of light. Sheet 70 x 56 cm. A recent edition, in excellent condition.
Presentation
Enrique Santana is an internationally acclaimed painter from Lepe (Huelva), whose distinguished career includes the Medal of Andalusia (2001) and the Gold Medal of the City of Lepe (2000). He left his hometown at a young age to build a career as a painter, developing a realist-impressionist style. Over the years he has alternated between the landscapes of Chicago, where he lived for almost three decades and kept a studio for 25 years, and the Atlantic Ocean and the luminous coast of Huelva, a region he admires and actively promotes. Water has remained a constant subject in his work: Lake Michigan reminded him of the sea of his native Huelva. His paintings have been acquired for public and private collections around the world, from Helsinki to San Francisco, with a particularly notable presence in Chicago, and are regularly shown in leading galleries and art fairs in Europe and America.
