Description
Untitled No. 10, a colour lithograph by Luis Feito (Madrid, 1929-2021), on a horizontal sheet of 49 by 60 cm, in an edition of sixty. Feito was a founding member of El Paso in 1957 and among the most consistent Spanish informalists, spending long periods in Paris from 1956 and later in Montreal and New York. His painting is built from dense, matted surfaces in which black, white and a single incandescent red or ochre are worked into material relief; from the nineteen-seventies the vocabulary loosened towards more open, gestural fields. The lithographs translate that language onto paper, where the crayon and tusche laid on the stone retain the pressure of the hand without the physical thickness of the paintings. Feito numbered rather than titled the great majority of his works, and the No. 10 designation belongs to that practice.
Presentation
Painter, one of El Paso group founders. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, in Madrid. Awarded with Official Award of Arts and Lettres in France in 1985. Gold Medal in Fine Arts in 1998. Member of Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.
His first paintings are figurative, but later he experimented with Cubism to finally reach the Abstraction. He only used black, white and ochre colours at the beginning. However, when he discovered the potential of the light y tried bright colours and plain surfaces. He used more and more vivid colours with time.
He has made exhibitions in the most relevant cities in the world, his artwork can be seen in important collections and museums, such as Fine Art Museum in Montreal, Guggenheim Foundation in New York, Modern Art Museum in Mexico DF, National Museum of Modern Art in Paris, or Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid.
